Annual Community Tree Planting Days 2007

The Dwyer Street Dam was targeted for the 2007 annual tree planting day. In July

2007, approxiamately 200 people turned in an awesome effort and planted around 3000 trees in a large area. Community response was fantastic with the trees and shrubs planted superbly. A variety of eucalypts, bottle brushes, casuarina's, eremophilas and wattles were planted - all species tolerant of the Kalgoorlie-Boulder climate.

The day was worthwhile for both environmental and social reasons. It was fantastic to see the Kalgoorlie-Boulder community come together to do their bit for the environment. The planted areas provide a habitat for birds and wildlife, reduce the local dust problems and provide much needed shade in summer for everyone.

Community and corporate groups, mining companies, families and individuals joined together for a common cause, working for a better environment.

2007 again saw the running of the highly contested

Corporate and Community Challenges, and the Best Costume Competition.

The winners in 2007 were:

  • Corporate Challenge: Placer Dome Australia
  • Community Challenge: The 1st Boulder Scout Group
  • Best Costume: The team for the Department of Environment for their bad taste suits and ties
  • The 1st Boulder Scout Group won the Theme Song Prize with their amazing treeplanting song.
