Annual Community Tree Planting Days 200530 July 2005: A large dusty area opposite the Congratulations to Placer Dome Australia for winning the Corporate Challenge and the 1st Boulder Scout Group for winning the Community Challenge and the best Tree planting song (again). The Department of Environment looked a treat in their business suits, and accordingly won the best costume prize. This year we also asked people to mulch their trees and a special prize went to Centrecare Goldfields who, with the help of Karen Gurry of the First Kalgoorlie Scouts mulched a huge proportion of the area!
Special thanks goes to the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder for preparing the site (a huge job over many weeks) and helping on the day. Western Power representatives provided and manned the free BBQ & drinks—keeping everyone's strength up. Our appreciation goes out also to the early birds who helped out on Saturday morning and the WMC Resources Community Participation Team for manning the Registration Desk. The day would not be possible of course without our core sponsors, with a special thank you to Western Power, the Minister for Environment's Community Conservation grants, Envirofund, and last but definitely not least, the City of Kalgoorlie Boulder. Thanks also to all of the other teams and individuals who came along and participated during the day. Your fantastic efforts help create a better environment and a better lifestyle for the community of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
Younger students were paired with older buddies who helped them plant their trees, giving them valuable lessons about sharing, helping and mentoring. Students from Goldfields Baptist College, Eastern Goldfields Education Support Centre, Kalgoorlie and O'Connor Primary Schools and the Bushrangers all helped out by planting trees along Johnston Street. Thank you for all of your hard work!
