Annual Community Tree Planting Days 2009

KBULG together with major event sponsors Western Power hosted the 2009 Community Tree Planting Day at Wortley Street in Somerville on the 18th of July.

With an estimated 300 people attending the weather was fantastic and the community succeeded in planting approximately 3700 native trees and shrubs, all grown locally at the Karlkurla Community Nursery. What an awesome effort!

KBULG would like to thank Western Power who sponsored this event and everyone who turned up to do their bit for our environment and our community, it was fantastic to see such a dedicated community coming together.

The City of Kalgoorlie Boulder again threw their support behind the event, undertaking all site works, including laying reticulation, so that the ground was ready when everyone arrived to plant the trees. A tremendous amount of behind the scenes work was completed to make this event the success it was.

Without help and cooperation from both the corporate/business and community sectors the day wouldn’t have been possible.

Participants were given prizes, which included movie passes to Orana Cinemas, and vouchers for Angus and Robertson and Video Ezy.

The Community Challenge was won by Boulder Scouts who had over 60 participants.  They were a fantastic group that powered from one end of the site to the other, planting trees and having fun. It was real treat to hear the Boulder Scouts sing their tree planting song at the end of the day.

Western Power provided a free sausage sizzle for all the volunteers. Everyone enjoyed a sausage and a drink. Special guest Korkeroo entertained the children, giving out lollies and chocolates and planting trees with his band of helpers.

Western Power presented a $10,000 cheque to KBULG on the day, as a contribution to their sponsorship over the next year.

The event was proudly sponsored and supported by all of KBULG’s core sponsors:
