Annual Community Tree Planting Day 2006
22 July 2006: The corner of Maxwell and Speculation Street was the site for the 2006 Community
Tree Planting Day. Individuals and teams planted over 4,000 trees.
Congratulations to BHP Billiton Nickel West for winning the Corporate Challenge and the
1st Boulder Scout Group for winning the Community Challenge and the best tree planting song
(again). This time the Tree Planting song was to the tune of Time Warp from the Rocky Horror
Picture Show.
Thanks to McBrides Nurseries, Ace Cinema, Kalgoorlie Sound Centre and Civic Video for
contributing some great prizes, the BHP Billiton Community Participation Team for manning the
Registration Desk and to the Golden Mail for letting Korker Roo come out to play.
The day would not be possible of course without our core sponsors, with a special thank you to

Annual Community Tree Planting Day 2005
30 July 2005: A large dusty area opposite the Oasis on Johnston Street was the site for this
year's Community Tree Planting Day. Individuals and teams participated in what turned out to be a
very successful day with over 4,000 trees planted.
Congratulations to Placer Dome Australia for winning the Corporate Challenge and the 1st Boulder
Scout Group for winning the Community Challenge and the best Tree planting song (again). The
Department of Environment looked a treat in their business suits, and accordingly won the best
costume prize.
This year we also asked people to mulch their trees and a special prize went to Centrecare
Goldfields who, with the help of Karen Gurry of the First Kalgoorlie Scouts mulched a huge
proportion of the area!
Special thanks goes to the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder for preparing the site (a huge job over
many weeks) and helping on the day. Western Power representatives provided and manned the free
BBQ & drinks—keeping everyone's strength up. Our appreciation goes out also to the
early birds who helped out on Saturday morning and the WMC Resources Community Participation Team
for manning the Registration Desk.
The day would not be possible of course without our core sponsors, with a special thank you to
Western Power, the Minister for Environment's Community Conservation grants, Envirofund, and last
but definitely not least, the City of Kalgoorlie Boulder.
Thanks also to all of the other teams and individuals who came along and participated during the

Over 1000 children were involved in completing planting at the 2005 Johnston Street site
opposite the Oasis.
Younger students were paired with older buddies who helped them plant their trees, giving them
valuable lessons about sharing, helping and mentoring.
Students from Goldfields Baptist College, Eastern Goldfields Education Support Centre,
Kalgoorlie and O'Connor Primary Schools and the Bushrangers all helped out by planting trees
along Johnston Street.

3rd July 2004: A large area along both sides of Gribble Creek bordered by Johnston, Kingsmill
and Wittenoom Streets was the site for this year's Community Tree Planting Day.
Individuals and teams participated in what turned out to be the most successful day with over
5500 trees planted.
Congratulations to Placer Dome Asia Pacific for winning the Corporate Challenge and the
1st Boulder Scout Group for winning the Community Challenge and the best Treeplanting song.
The Department of Environment looked a treat in their homemade insect outfits and accordingly won
the best costume prize.
Special thanks goes to the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder for preparing the site and laying all the
reticulation (a huge job over many weeks), donating trees and helping set up and pack away on the
day. Our appreciation goes out also to the early birds who helped out on Saturday morning setting
the trees out and others like WMC Resources Community Participation Team for manning the
Registration Desk.

Annual Community Tree Planting Day 2003
19 July 2003: The Gribble Creek floodplain was the site for this year's Community Tree Planting
Day. Individuals and teams participated in what turned out to be an extremely successful day with
over 2500 trees being planted.
Congratulations to Placer Dome Asia Pacific - Strategic Development and Support Services for
winning the Corporate Challenge with 50 participants. Well done also to the Boulder Scouts for
winning the Community Challenge with 37. The Department of Environment looked a treat in their
homemade gumnut babies outfits and accordingly won the best costume prize.
Special thanks goes to the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder for preparing the site and laying all the
reticulation, a huge job over many weeks. Our appreciation goes out also to the early birds who

Annual Community Tree Planting Day 2002
8 June 2002: Nearly 300 people came out on a beautiful winter's morning to plant 2000 trees and
shrubs in Centennial Park.
Most of the trees and shrubs were planted in the first hour!
Participants were then encouraged to spread mulch around their trees and seeds were available to
disperse for the latecomers.
The day was very worthwhile both for environmental and social reasons. Community and corporate
groups, the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, mining companies, families and individuals joined
together to do their bit for the environment to celebrate Arbor Day and Goldfields Environment
Month.
As part of the day, KBULG organised a Community and Corporate Challenge for local businesses and
community groups. The Boys Brigade won the Community Challenge with the most participants and the
Corporate Challenge was won by WMC Ltd - Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter.
Annual Community Tree Planting Day 2001
9 June, 2001: On a freezing cold winter's day nearly 300 participants joined together in
planting 2000 native seedlings in a new park near the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Airport. The area was
also mulched and landscaped and walk paths have been installed to allow residents and visitors to
appreciate the area. The plants are growing really with an 80% success rate.
The Premier, Dr Geoff Gallop, had launched the tree planting day in Kalgoorlie-Boulder a few
days earlier as part of World Environment Day celebrations.
